Terms of Service

Last updated 23 August 2026

These terms cover Rootlume — the iOS app and rootlume.com — made by Vorby Studios LLC. Making an account means agreeing to them.

What Rootlume is

Rootlume is a social network you can see. Every person you are connected to is a node in a living visualization; connections are made by handing somebody a seed code, and chat happens inside the graph. That is the whole product.

It is free. Invites, the graph and messaging cost nothing and are intended to stay that way — nobody should have to pay to keep their friends. If a paid tier is ever added it will be for things on top, never for growth or for access to people you are already connected to.

Your account

  • You need to be 13 or older.
  • One person, one account. Give accurate information when you sign up.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself.
  • There is no password reset yet, and no email verification, because Rootlume does not yet send email to users. If you lose your password, write to support@vorby.com. This is a temporary state of the product, not a design choice.

Seeds and growth

A seed code sprouts exactly once. Handing one to somebody is an invitation into your network — treat it like one. Automating the creation or distribution of seed codes, or handing them out at scale to people you do not know, is not what they are for and may get an account suspended.

What you may not do

  • Harass, threaten, impersonate, or send anyone content that is illegal, sexual content involving minors, or content that incites violence.
  • Send spam, scams, or bulk unsolicited messages.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract the graph or other people's data; probe, overload, or attempt to break the service; or use another account without permission.
  • Use Rootlume to build a competing dataset of who knows whom.

Accounts that do these things can be suspended or removed, with notice where it is reasonable to give it and without where it is not.

Your content

What you write is yours. Vorby Studios claims no ownership of your messages, your name, or your avatar. You grant only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, and to show it to the people you sent it to or connected with. Nothing you write is used for advertising, sold, or used to train any model.

You are responsible for what you send, and you need the right to send it.

Deleting your account

You can leave at any time. There is not yet a delete button in the app or on the website — until there is, email support@vorby.com from the address on the account and it will be deleted, along with its data. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what that removes.

The service is provided as it is

Rootlume is new, small, and run by a very small team. It is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Specifically, and plainly:

  • It may be unavailable, lose data, or change without notice.
  • Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. Rootlume is not a backup.
Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted in transit and at rest, but Vorby Studios can technically read them. Do not use Rootlume for anything that has to stay confidential. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Vorby Studios LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of Rootlume. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to the service and to these terms

Features will be added, changed and removed. If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes and, where we have a way to reach you, we will say so. Continuing to use Rootlume after a change means accepting it.

Ending it

You can stop using Rootlume whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if running the service stops being viable — in which case we will give as much notice as we can and a way to get your data out.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a clause is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Nothing here removes any right you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
